Quotes from both managers following Leeds United's 1-0 defeat away to Millwall.

Below are quotes from both Neil Warnock and Kenny Jackett follwing Millwall's 1-0 win over United at the New Den.

Neil Warnock:

"We all thought the sending off was harsh. He's gone back with his arm and his elbow, but not into his face. When you see it again you can see where he catches the player then see the player hold a different part of his face and start rolling around.

I would have expected an experienced referee like that to deal with that. It was a turning point, but that's the way things are going at the moment. There's not a lot going for us at all.

And I thought we should have had a penalty when the lad was all over all Tom Lees, but the referee is in a poor position and linesmen don't flag when it's a hostile environment like this. It's a clear penalty so you have to ask why he didn't flag, but it summed up the day.

We went with a positive selection and in the second second half we were going to change it a bit and be more positive. Then that kills you really.

I thought the lads played well. You can't fault them for effort. At 11 v 11 it was there for the taking. We had nullified them to long range shots, and with Ross on the bench we could win the game."

Kenny Jackett:

"It was a real quality goal that decided it - a fantastic ball from Shane and Chris was in the right place at the right time.

Any win in the Championship is hard-earned and this was no exception.

Millwall v Leeds games are always very passionate. We're pleased to come out on top against a side as big as Leeds."

How did you rate the players performance during Leeds United's 1-0 defeat away to Millwall?

Another less than sensational performance from United but one slight positive is that it was better than the 6-1 humiliation last time out (I know not much of a positive). How did you rate the players performances at the New Den? Have your say below!

Paddy Kenny: 5 - Had little to do due to Millwall's poor shooting, other than pick the ball out of his net.

Sam Byram: 6 - Should be played in a more advanced role.

Lee Peltier: 6 - A better performance from the skipper than we have seen for a while.

Tom Lees: 6 - Stood strong for 86 minutes.

Adam Drury: 7 - Should be United's first choice left back from here on in. Hopefully will stay injury free.

Ryan Hall: 6 - Did okay on his full debut but there was too little involvement from all our attacking players.

Paul Green: 6 - Some loose passes but generally did okay.

Michael Tonge: 4 - Little involvement in the game and embarrassingly blew United's chance to equalise at the end of the game.

Luke Varney: 4 - Harsh red card.

El-Hadji Diouf - 6 - An improved performance on recent weeks but still not vintage Diouf.

Luciano Becchio: 5 - Not much to work with but had little impact on the game.

Ross McCormack: 6 - Great to see him back on the field and looked fairly sharp to say he's been injured for a few months.

United's misery continues after a late header from Chris Wood gave Millwall all three points.

With morale in the squad and stands at an all-time low, Leeds United made the long trip South to face Millwall. With many fans setting off at 3am, it promised to be a long day for those who made the trip.

After some poor results and the on-going takeover still erm...on-going Leeds fans expected very little, with the in-form Lions looking to extend their unbeaten run to ten matches.

Winger Ryan Hall was given his first start since his loan move from Southend, while Ross McCormack returned to the bench following his long layoff following an ankle injury.

United started well and launched their first attack when Diouf went in on goal only to be upended by defender Mark Beevers who was given a yellow card. From the free-kick Tonge's effort hit the wall and Millwall settled down to make things harder for Warnock's men.

Midfielder Paul Green was showing some good form in the middle of the park and was doing his best to pick a pass instead of playing the long ball. Hall was causing problems on right flank and he was being supported well by the ever-improving Sam Byram.

With Leeds unable to make the early possession count, Millwall bounced back and were looking dangerous on the counter attack. Andy Keogh was a nuisance throughout and the big Chris Wood was causing all sorts of problems in the air.

Both sides had half-chances but it was Millwall who edged the first half and could have taken the lead on the stroke of half-time but Keogh's shot drifted just wide.

The second-half started and Leeds' chances of taking the three points vanished within two minutes after Luke Varney was dismissed. Mark Halsey adjudged Varney of using his elbow and although it was a soft card, Varney should have been smarter in that instance.

The game was turned on its head and United were on the back foot. Wood, Taylor and Trotter all went close from long range for Millwall but Paddy Kenny did enough to thwart the oncoming attack. With Millwall dominating, manager Neil Warnock introduced Ross McCormack after his spell on the sidelines.

The home side continued to dominate possession and they had a goal disallowed when Paddy Kenny was bundled into the back of the net by the charging Liam Trotter. Kenny was unable to stop next Millwall's next effort which came via the head of Chris Wood. Ex-Leeds loanee Shane Lowry found space on the left and his in-swinging cross was met at the back post by Wood to make it 1-0.

Leeds went on the hunt for that vital leveller and should have been awarded a penalty when Lowry prevented Tom Lees from winning the ball by bear hugging him. With Leeds chasing a goal, Millwall had one last chance to kill the game off but Keogh and Henry both missed from inside the box.

At the full-time whistle the anger on Neil Warnock's face was clear to see. An improved performance today, but against better opposition we'd have been beaten convincingly. There seems to be no light at the end of the tunnel. Too many injuries. Too many suspensions.

The looming emergency-loan deadline is fast approaching this Thursday. A few new faces could see a change in results and morale. A lack of new blood could see the Whites fall to the relegation places before Christmas.

Over to you GFH and Mr Bates, for the 200th time since May!!

Match preview ahead of Leeds United's trip to the New Den to face Millwall.

Leeds United head to the New Den in desperate need of a win following their 6-1 home defeat against Watford last weekend. Although Millwall have been considered somewhat of a bogey team for the Whites in recent years, United managed to do the double over the London club last season without conceding a goal in 2-0 and 1-0 wins. Much of the same is required tomorrow if Neil Warnock and his team are to stop the rot which they currently find themselves in.

Team News:

Neil Warnock will have to make a number of changes to his side for the clash with Millwall due to injuries and suspension. Michael Brown and Jason Pearce, who was sent off against Watford, are both suspended where as Rodolph Austin is ruled out with a cracked ankle bone which he suffered in the same match.

More positive news for the Leeds manager is that Ross McCormack is expected to be named on the substitutes bench after being out since September with an ankle injury.

Darius Henderson and James Henry will both be missing for the hosts. Both players have hamstring injuries while John Marquis is also a doubt with a groin problem.

One To Watch:

I have a feeling that it will be a former Leeds man who United will have to look out for during Sunday's clash with Millwall. Andy Keogh only managed two goals during his loan spell at Elland Road which consisted of 30 appearances. However, the Ireland International then moved to Millwall in January and hit ten goals for the Lions. Keogh has found the net four times so far this campaign and will be looking to get one over the club where it all began for him.

My United Line-up:

This is the team I would select to face Millwall. With injury and suspension Neil Warnock doesn't have much choice in midfield so I think Norris and Green will play there. I would start Ryan Hall ahead of Aidan White who has been poor. Hopefully the Southend Loanee can add a bit of attacking threat, something Aidan White doesn't do, if he is selected.

My Prediction:

I don't hold out much hope for this game. Other than last season Millwall have been a bogey team for United and given the run of form that the Whites are in I think Millwall will win this one. Hopefully I will be proven wrong but with Millwall looking to go ten games unbeaten, I don't think I will be unfortunately.

Last Six Meetings:

12th March 2012: Millwall 0-1 Leeds United

3rd December 2011: Leeds United 2-0 Millwall

9th April 2011: Millwall 3-2 Leeds United

21st August 2010: Leeds United 3-1 Millwall

Probably the last thing Leeds United need after another massively disappointing week is a trip to our old friends in South East London. Clashes against Millwall have not been pretty in recent years, and after the pounding against Watford last Saturday, the Whites are low on confidence and players for the televised clash. We start our look back at the last five meetings at the New Den by looking back at Neil Warnock’s first win as Leeds boss, which came on the back of an Elland Road thrashing.

24th March 2012 – MILLWALL 0 LEEDS UNITED 1

Neil Warnock earned his first win as United boss with victory in a feisty affair. The petty niggles which marred the game started early with Robert Snodgrass lucky to escape with just a booking for a dangerous looking tackle in the opening minutes. The football on display was not the best, and the match hinged on a three minute spell midway through the second half. Ross McCormack gave Leeds the advantage, bundling the ball in from close range on 65 minutes. The Lions responded quickly and were unlucky to see a goal ruled out three minutes later. Alex Bruce upended Andy Keogh, and although Harry Kane drilled in the loose ball, the referee had already awarded the penalty. Andy Lonergan rubbed salt in the wounds by saving Darius Henderson’s spot kick and Leeds hung on for a precious win, just days after a humiliating 3-7 defeat to Nottingham Forest.

9th April 2011 – MILLWALL 3 LEEDS UNITED 2

The play-off hopes of the Whites began to seriously unravel with this defeat on a delightful spring Saturday. Millwall raced into a two goal lead with strikes from James Henry and Liam Trotter inside the opening half hour. Simon Grayson changed things round at the break, bringing on Davide Somma for Robert Snodgrass, and Leeds quickly got back into the game through Luciano Becchio. Steve Morison restored the Lions two goal lead just after the hour, and despite Andy O’Brien’s late goal giving the Whites a glimmer of hope, the three points slipped away as did the clubs hopes of promotion.

24th October 2009 – MILLWALL 2 LEEDS UNITED 1

Leeds entered this game unbeaten in the League after starting the season like a house on fire. Building on the play-off disappointment of the previous season, Simon Grayson’s side had made the best start to a season in the clubs history with six straight wins and 12 games without defeat. A sloppy start saw Neil Harris put Millwall ahead on 3 minutes, but Leeds were soon level thanks to Paddy Kisnorbo’s first goal for the club. However, possibly feeling the effects of an epic win over Norwich the previous Monday, the Whites succumbed to a first defeat of the campaign when Gary Alexander netted for the Lions seven minutes from time. Once again defeat galvanised the Whites and it would be January before they tasted defeat in the League again, as they marched on to promotion.

Leeds paid the penalty for a cautious approach to this Play-Off semi-final as Millwall grabbed what proved to be a decisive lead. The Whites had been in stunning form over the latter weeks of the season and were slight favourites entering the tie. However they were lacklustre on this Saturday lunchtime and offered very little threat in the opening 45 minutes. Millwall took control of the match and deserved the lead given to them by Neil Harris 19 minutes from time. The Millwall legend capitalised on a mistake by Richard Naylor to fire past Casper Ankergren, sparking a pitch invasion which saw the Leeds goalkeeper jostled by the home support. The slender lead was enough to take Kenny Jackett’s team through after a 1-1 draw in the second leg at Elland Road, although they missed out on promotion, beaten by Scunthorpe in the final at Wembley.

Gary McAllister’s Leeds side were comprehensively beaten as the defensive problems which would blight his reign came to the fore once again. Leeds had taken the lead on 31 minutes through Becchio, but Millwall were level before half time thanks to Dave Martin. Neil Harris, always a thorn in United’s side grabbed two goals in the second half to see the Lions home to a comfortable victory.
