With the departure of Kalvin Phillips in the other direction, Leeds United have picked up young midfielder, Darko Gyabi from Manchester City. The deal is ‘unrelated’ to Phillips’ departure as the 18-year-old arrives for a reported fee of £5m.
Gyabi was part of Manchester City’s PL2 title-winning campaign, scoring one goal and assisting three in 11 appearances.

He clearly enjoys having the ball at his feet, and has proven a handful if given the time and space. However, much like Lewis Bate, he will have to prove himself on the big stage, and it may be some time before we see him in action at the senior level.
That said, with Klich coming toward the end of his time at the club, Phillips departing, and competition for places in the immediate term strengthening, we could see Gyabi phased into the senior set-up to compete with the likes of Marc Roca in the future.
Being a defensive/box-to-box midfielder with superb physical attributes and a knack for whipping long passes, young Gyabi could be seen as the ideal Phillips replacement... but only time will tell.
