Leeds United secured a place in the 3rd round of the League Cup following a late-late show against Crewe Alexandra in front of a full Elland Road.

The Whites started well, taking control of the game early on as Forshaw forced the Crewe keeper into a decent save 10 minutes in with a snap-shot from the edge of the box.

Llorente had a header cleared off-the-line from a corner while Roberts and Harrison also caused Crewe problems, but the two sides went into the break with the deadlock unbroken.

Harrison should’ve scored on 52 minutes after being slipped through by Tyler Roberts on the left channel. He was caught between two minds to shoot across goal or find Rodrigo at the back-post. He stuck the ball in no man's land and the chance went begging.

Leeds upped the pressure with the introduction of Patrick Bamford as he provided plenty of danger after coming on for the final 15-20 minutes. It first paid off as The Whites finally opened the scoring on 75 minutes from a Harrison corner-kick, with captain Kalvin Phillips firing a shot through the crowd of bodies inside the six-yard box to put Leeds ahead at last.

Bamford created the second as he was put through by Mateusz Klich on the right. Bamford came inside, took his time before squaring it to Harrison in the middle. His touch wasn’t quite right as he gave the keeper a chance to recover, but the finish swiftly took that away as he lifted the ball over the goalkeeper brilliantly to double the Leeds lead.

And he wasn’t done there as Bamford once again drove down the right, beating his man in the process before squaring it to Roberts whose shot was blocked. It only went as far as Harrison on the left channel of the box, and he fired a volley across goal, nestling into the bottom-right corner to secure Leeds’ place in the League Cup 3rd round.
