Leeds United have swiftly replaced the departing Ezgjan Alioski, signing Junior Firpo from Barcelona for £12.8 million.
The 24-year-old has been isolating in Leeds for a week and can now join the squad for pre-season. This is a crucial point as he works toward a possible start at Old Trafford on the opening day of the season.
Firpo broke through at Real Betis in 2017, earning a move to the Catalan giants in 2019. But his big move stunted his career for the next couple of years, spending much of last season on the bench.
He now arrives at Elland Road looking to take The Premier League by storm, entering a rip-roaring Leeds team who will expect Firpo to bomb up and down the left flank. Something he’s likely looking forward to.
Barcelona have also revealed that they hold a 20% sell-on clause in the deal, meaning that they are entitled to a sizeable chunk of the fee that Firpo is sold for in the future.
