Leeds United’s under-23s opened the club’s pre-season schedule with a victory over Guiseley away from home.

It was a great start for the away side as Joe Gelhardt recovered a cleared free-kick, working his way into the box and finding Summerville who danced between defenders and was struck down not once but twice. On the second time of asking, the referee pointed to the spot.

Summerville took the penalty and sent the keeper the wrong way, slotting the ball into the bottom left corner.

Guiseley responded instantly though, as Felix turned Kenneh on the wing before making it to the by-line and firing a low cross into the middle. Thompson met it, slipping the ball just past Elia Caprile from close range.

The Whites re-took the lead a couple of minutes to half-time as Sam Greenwood stepped up and fired a wonderful freekick from the edge of the D into the top left corner in true Sam Greenwood fashion.

It was a quiet second half until the 84th minute when Cresswell won the ball back and shifted it to Drameh. He drove up the right-hand side and slipped the ball down the line for Summerville. The flying Dutchman was second to the ball, but he nipped around the defender and stole the ball back on the by-line before dribbling inside and squaring it for Charlie Allen at the back post for an easy tap-in.

Guiseley came back again though as an initial scuffed shot caught Elia Caprile off-guard, as he could only parry the ball into the path of Lewis Hay who squeezed the ball in from a tight angle.

In the end, the youngsters made a solid start to pre-season as they prepare for life in The Premier League 2 Division 1 this season. Meanwhile, some might get their chance to break through into the first team.
