Leeds United are reportedly in talks with Ligue 1 outfit Metz over the potential transfer of Farid Boulaya.

The 28-year-old, who can play in attacking midfield and on either flank, has 12 months left on his current deal and is subsequently available for just 4.5 million euros.

Despite his name containing “Bouy”, the Algeria international would likely be a much better investment. He initially broke into the Metz first team after their relegation to Ligue 2, and he scored six goals and six assists to aid their immediate return to the top flight.

A limited number of minutes in the 19/20 season could have spelled the end of his first team involvement, but he excelled last season, scoring six and assisting eight as his side secured a 10th-placed finish.

According to the initial report, two “very good” clubs from Italy and Spain are also keeping tabs on Boulaya.

Leeds, who have also been linked with moves for Club Brugge’s Noa Lang and former shirt-poser Daniel James of Manchester United, may offload Helder Costa this summer.

The Portuguese winger, who signed for a total fee of £16 million last summer, has fallen down the pecking order at Elland Road and is reportedly attracting interest from Valencia.
