Leeds United are expected to move for a new goalkeeper to back up Illan Meslier, with Elia Caprile not thought to be ready for the level as yet. The updates available seem to point to Freddie Woodman as the most likely, although I personally don’t see the move happening.
Graham Smyth of the Yorkshire Evening Post revealed that the three names on Victor Orta’s list were Dani Cárdenas (Levante), Kristoffer Klaesson (Vålerenga) and Freddie Woodman (Newcastle United). These names make sense as they all on the younger side, but crucially have enough first team experience.
Now, Lee Ryder, chief Newcastle United reporter for the Chronicle has an update on Leeds’ pursuit of Freddie Woodman.
“Leeds put in a cash bid for Woodman earlier this week and there is believed to be other interest with Celtic linked at the start of the summer.
“Woodman appears to have left Newcastle’s training camp in York, after he posted an update on his Instagram story yesterday, which appeared to show him at a coffee shop in Croydon where he grew up.”

Woodman impressed during his two seasons on loan at Swansea City in the Championship and would be an able deputy for Meslier. However, I personally don’t see him joining Leeds as I think dropping back to being a number two goalkeeper would be a bad move for him at this stage, and I expect those around him to be saying the same thing.
