Leeds Player Ratings: Leeds 1 - 1 Liverpool. A deserved point in the end.

Liverpool were on top for a while, but Leeds fought back and could have won it.

Leeds United fought their way back well to claim a creditable 1-1 draw against Liverpool, although the game was overshadowed by the European Super League news and all that goes along with it. Thoughts on that are embedded below.

Liverpool were on top right from the off apart from one big chance for Patrick Bamford, and they took the lead after half an hour. Diogo Jota played an excellent through-ball for Trent Alexander-Arnold who had got away from Jack Harrison. Alexander-Arnold beat Illan Meslier to the ball and squared it to Sadio Mane who had a tap-in.

Liverpool continued to be the better side for a while in the second half but Leeds worked their way into the match. With 15 minutes to go Leeds spurned two massive chances as Bamford hit the bar, before soon after Tyler Roberts missed a sitter.

You were hoping for one more chance, and we got one as Jack Harrison produced a good corner and Diego Llorente headed home the equaliser.

Time now to look at each player and how they performed. As always you can tell me how wrong I am @mightywhitespod or @ThruItAllLUFC on twitter.

STARTING LINEUP

Illan Meslier - Couple of saves in the opening 20mins, but ones you’d expect him to make. Came flying off his line on the opening goal and didn’t get there. Off his line well to get Llorente out of jail. Bad kick straight to Salah but Struijk got him out of jail. Came for a corner straight after and got nowhere near it. 6/10

Luke Ayling - Defended well in the first half and was calm in possession in some tough areas. Produced a fantastic pass to get Bamford in behind for a great chance in the second half. 7.5/10

Diego Llorente - Made several good tackles early on. One awful header back to Meslier that put Jota in on goal but Meslier rescued him. After that his performance level dropped and he seemed off his game for a while. Improved again as the second half went on. Scored the equaliser in the closing stages with a good header from a corner. Could have been a really high score without the bad patch. 8/10

Pascal Struijk - Solid performance throughout. Couple of moments where he covered well for a teammate. 7/10

Ezgjan Alioski - Booked for a foul on Mane. Did ok, not loads to say. 6/10

Kalvin Phillips - Stepped in well to win the ball to create Leeds’ first big chance. Strong in the middle of the park. 7.5/10

Helder Costa - Spent most of the game chasing back with Andy Robertson. very quiet. 5/10

Stuart Dallas - Did fine in midfield, fine once he moved to left-back. The game passed him by a bit today, but as he was so good in the last game that’s fine. 6/10

Tyler Roberts - Couple of nice moments, the best of which set up a chance for Harrison. Missed a sitter in the second half by smacking it straight at Alisson. 6/10

Jack Harrison - Lost TAA for the goal and did the exact same again soon after. Forced Alisson into a very good save midway through the second half. Good corner to set up Llorente to make it 1-1. His second half performance was better than the first and he was able to force TAA back which helped Leeds massively. There were some moments where he lacked composure. 7.5/10

Patrick Bamford - Played in by Phillips and took a bad touch which made his eventual shot much easier to save for Alisson. Wasn’t in the game in the first half aside from that. So unlucky to hit the bar with a lofted effort with 15 minutes to go. Kept making runs and chasing around. 6.5/10

Ian Poveda (for Costa, 67mins) - Good pass to play Roberts in for a chance he should take. Decent cameo. 6.5/10
