Leeds reportedly join Leicester and Sevilla in chase for Turkey international

Orkun Kökcü, capped twice by Turkey, has hinted at a move away from Feyenoord due to the Dutch side’s difficult financial situation.

Leeds United have joined Leicester City and Seville in targeting Feyenoord playmaker Orkan Kökcü, according to La Razon.

The 20-year-old has scored nine goals and provided 12 assists in 70 appearances since scoring on his debut for the Eredivisie side in September 2018, and is considered to be one of their brightest young prospects.

Last year, the Groningen academy product signed an extension to his contract, which now runs until the 2024/25 season, but Feyenoord’s delicate financial position has attracted plenty of attention.

Indeed, the player himself admitted that his situation had changed: “The club has been very clear about the financial situation and it is clear that it is not good, so if a club comes with a good proposal for me and the entity can enter a good amount, I imagine that it will be listened to.”

Kökcü was born in Haarlem and represented the Netherlands at the U18 and U19 levels, but switched his allegiance to his parents’ homeland Turkey and made his senior international debut last September in the Nations League.

The Leicester Mercury claim that Arsenal were interested in signing the youngster last year, but were put off by his £23 million price tag. However, Kökcü could now be available for as little as £10 million.

He has showcased his talents from a young age, registering 17 goals and 34 assists in the U19 Eredivisie and UEFA Youth League during the 2017/18 campaign.

In their scout report of Kökcü, Breaking The Lines highlight his ball control, his first touch and his passing ability. The technically gifted youngster took just one senior campaign to nail down a starting spot for Feyenoord.

More recent worries about a lack of goals have surfaced, but this is thought to be due to manager Dick Advocaat choosing to play him in a deeper midfield role. So far this season, Kökcü has bagged two goals and two assists in 23 appearances across all competitions.
