According to reports from The Athletic and Le10 Sport, Leeds United are showing interest in Stade Brest left-back, Romain Perraud. With Gjanni Alioski’s contract set to expire and negotiations ongoing, Leeds will feel that the position will need replenishing with both Alioski and Dallas entering their late twenties.

23-year-old Perraud has been incredibly impressive for mid-table Brest this season, scoring three goals and assisting five inside the first 14 appearances of the season. This is a huge improvement on last season as The Frenchman assisted just one goal from 20 appearances last season.

After 21 Ligue 1 appearances so far this season, Perraud has attracted the interest of both Leeds United and Southampton despite signing a new contract recently. According to Le10 Sport, both clubs have made contact with the player’s club and agency in a bid to win the race for Perraud’s signature.

Like all Bielsa full-backs, Perraud loves to attack and offer an over-lapping threat. He’s played a few games further forward in his career but nothing of notice came from there. Leeds Live say that Perraud tends to cover an impressive 10-12km per game, which is something that Marcelo Bielsa will have been particularly happy to see in his scouting reports.

They also quote WhoScored.com with Perraud’s defensive stats as he averages 1.8 successful tackles per 90 minutes and 1.4 interceptions per 90 minutes - very solid numbers for someone who is in their second breakout season.

The recently signed contract is apparently not as big an issue as it would anywhere else, with Ligue 1 currently struggling financially due to a collapsed TV network and a war over the rights of showing Ligue 1 football. This could open the way for several big transfers coming from France, with Jonathan Panzo also linked to Leeds a while ago.

This is certainly one worth keeping an eye on as Southampton and Leeds battle it out for Perraud’s signature.
