Leeds United have joined Leicester City in the race for 21-year-old midfielder Tommaso Pobega according to Italian reports.

TuttoSport in Italy report that Leeds, Leicester and Frankfurt are interested in AC Milan’s midfield prodigy who is currently out on loan at fellow Serie A side Spezia Calcio.

Despite the Italy u21 international being replaced by Sandro Tonali in the summer transfer window, Pobega apparently sees his long-term future in Milan. This is, of course, plausible as Spezia Calcio have an option to buy but the deal also includes a buy-back clause that will be available until 2025.

Milan clearly sees the young midfielder as a player with a lot of potential but at this point in his career, he needs game time. Leeds are in the search for a midfielder in the coming summer transfer window and Pobega has been eyed as a great option for the now as well as the future.

This season Pobega has scored three goals and assisted two in 14 Serie A this season, resulting in a direct goal involvement every 164 minutes so far this season. Last season he played for Pordenone Calcio in Serie B where he scored five and assisted four goals in 31 appearances.

The versatile midfielder is primarily a ‘number 8’ while also played as a holding-midfielder and attacking-midfielder as well as a wide-midfielder, full-back and centre-back on a few occasions.

It seems like the Leeds hierarchy are planning to go big once again in the summer window should The Whites remain in the top-flight, with Luke Perraud among the players linked to a summer move. This one is a difficult battle to win with the parties involved, but it’s certainly a saga to keep an eye on.
