Player Ratings: Southampton 1 - 0 Leeds. Awful. Up there for worst performance under Marcelo Bielsa.

Horrendous - Southampton want to be ashamed it was only 1-0 given our performance today.

Leeds United were missing several key players for the trip to the south coast to face Southampton and it really showed as they produced one of their poorest performances we have seen under Marcelo Bielsa. Losing 1-0 when the result should have been much more comfortable.

Illan Meslier made good saves from Nathan Redmond and Armando Broja and Stuart Dallas made a key clearance to keep it at 0-0. Southampton were completely dominant for the entire first half where Leeds offered nothing other than one long shot from Tyler Roberts, and a poor Dan James cross.

Leeds had an actual chance five minutes into the second half when Jack Harrison had a shot deflected over the bar. This was not a sign of things to come though. Southampton took the lead on a well worked break with Armando Broja finishing from Nathan Redmond’s pass.

Leeds continued to create nothing, barring one Dan James chance that he made for himself with good pressing and were deservedly beaten. This was up there for the worst performance we have seen under Marcelo Bielsa.

Time now to look at each player and how they performed. You can tell me how wrong I am @mightywhitespod or @ThruItAllLUFC on twitter.

STARTING LINEUP

Illan Meslier - Made a good save at the near post from Nathan Redmond, then another later in the half to deny Armando Broja. Goal wasn’t his fault. 6/10

Diego Llorente - Leeds unable to play out from the back in the first half, which counts against all the defenders and the midfield. Lost Redmond for the opening goal with a very poor bit of defending. Booked for a very poor tackle on the edge of the box which gave away a very dangerous free-kick. 4.5/10

Pascal Struijk - Made a mistake dealing with a long ball leading to a chance for Broja. Picked up a yellow card for a cynical foul. 5/10

Liam Cooper - A good block to deny Romeu midway through the first half. Poor decision making on the opening goal - made it so easy for Southampton to score. 5/10

Jamie Shackleton - Not great in the first half, not comfortable on the ball. Made an error to let Romain Perraud in behind on a ball he was 80/20 favourite for midway through the second half. 5/10

Mateusz Klich - No grip on the midfield and some sloppy moments. Was basically on his own in midfield for long periods which didn’t help his cause. 4.5/10

Stuart Dallas - Made an unbelievable last ditch clearance to divert a ball both wide and beyond Elyounoussi who would have had a tap-in. Lack of quality in possession was frustrating at times, including to him - visibly. 4.5/10

Tyler Roberts - Good turn and a decent strike from 30 yards late in the first half - which I think was our only shot of the first half. Did try and turn on the ball to do “something” which is more than could be said for anyone other than Dan James in the first half, still very quiet though. Started the second half with a bad loss of possession followed by picking up a cheap yellow card. Possibly even quieter in the second half than the first. 5/10

Dan James - One first half cross into the arms of Alex McCarthy - which was Leeds ‘ best attacking moment of the half. Better than most of those around around him in the first half. Created a chance for himself by pressing well and winning the ball from Salisu but he put the chance wide. Crosses were consistently poor. 5.5/10

Rodrigo - Anonymous in the first half. Anonymous in the second. Subbed just after the hour. Did nothing, I know strikers need help but this was beyond just a lack of service. 4/10

Jack Harrison - Anonymous in the first half. Cut inside well on to his right foot and had a shot deflected over the bar early in the second half. Played on the right-wing, the left-wing, and a left-wing-back role and never got into the match really. 5/10

SUBSTITUTES

Adam Forshaw (for Rodrigo, 63mins) - Couple of nice touches alongside a couple of poor passes in bad areas. I know he has had all the injuries so it is understandable, but he looked so slow, both physically and with his reactions. 5/10

Joe Gelhardt (for Klich, 76mins) - Premier League debut. Did more than Rodrigo or Roberts while up front by winning a few free-kicks and managing to actually pressure defenders. 6/10

Crysencio Summerville (for Roberts, 81mins) - N/A
