In a day to forget for Leeds, The Whites were beaten 3-0 away to League 2 side Crawley Town in The FA Cup 3rd round.
It was a quiet first half for both sides with a few moments of note in the game. Poveda came closest for Leeds with his low shot from the left being saved by the inside of the keeper’s foot before looping past the post. Rodrigo should’ve had a penalty awarded when attacking a cross from Helder Costa in which Rodrigo was pulled back by the defender.
Crawley had the best chance of the first half though, with Tom Nicholls rising highest from a corner-kick, with Casilla swatting the ball away at the far post as the break approached.
It all went wrong in the second half though with changes that didn’t quite work at half-time. Youngsters Casey and Jenkins replaced Liam Cooper and Pascal Struijk while Rodrigo was directly replaced by Jack Harrison.
Crawley took a quick lead thanks to a piece of individual brilliance from Tsaroulla who turned past the swarming defenders before driving through into the box on the left and firing the ball across goal and into the bottom right corner.
They followed-up inside three minutes as Nadesan latched onto a long ball before lashing his shot from a tight angle through the legs of Casilla who didn’t cover himself in glory.
The third came from yet another set-piece, with a shot at close range coming in from the looping ball into the box. Casilla managed to stop the first but couldn’t keep it out of the way of Tunnicliffe who had an open goal to fire into.
A day to forget for The Whites and a performance that they must learn from, regardless if they are youth or senior players. They must now recover and put their mistakes right as we look ahead to the next league game as Leeds United host Brighton and Hove Albion at Elland Road
