Leeds United claimed a fantastic 1-0 win at Bramall Lane against Chris Wilder’s Sheffield United. A Patrick Bamford header from a Jack Harrison cross was enough for the Whites to claim a crucial three points.

Luke Ayling forced the first save of the game with a rasping effort from the edge of the box which was tipped wide by Aaron Ramsdale. Sheffield United had their first real effort a couple of minutes later when John Lundstram pulled a shot wide from an Oliver Burke pass.

Leeds were playing in a 3-5-2 with Stuart Dallas playing in a central midfield role and didn’t look entirely comfortable defensively. The best chance came from the Blades when Ben Osborn got in down the left, he crossed for David McGoldrick who let it run for Lundstram. His rasping shot was saved incredibly by Illan Meslier.

Patrick Bamford had two headers over the bar which were decent efforts and Stuart Dallas forced Ramsdale into a second good save with a great outside of the boot effort. Meslier was forced into another great save by wing-back George Baldock after he turned Jack Harrison and drove a shot at the France youth international’s near post.

The second half started with Helder Costa having a back-post volley saved by Ramsdale and Bamford had a decent effort saved at near post. Sheffield United then tested Meslier with a shot from the edge of the box by Enda Stevens, which was saved comfortably the Meslier.

On the hour mark Stuart Dallas got in behind from a long-ball over the top - he rounded the keeper well by his finish was weak and Chris Basham was able to get back and clear it off the line. Dallas was also involved in Leeds’ next chance, his cross being headed wide by Rodrigo.

Leeds had a couple of good breaks lead by substitute Ian Poveda, one of which he forced a good save from Ramsdale. Jack Robinson had a great chance for Sheffield United from a corner, but his volley dribbled just wide.

Leeds got the goal in the 88th minute. Jack Harrison produced an excellent cross and Patrick Bamford header the ball down, and across the keeper, to get Leeds the three points.
