After joining from hometown club Motherwell FC for around £400k, McKinstry impressed in both the u18s and u23s, impressive in the latter age group despite his young age compared to his teammates.
The Scotland youth international drew particular praise for his performances against Watford FC in a 6-0 victory for the u23 side, and for his showing in the 1-0 defeat to Manchester United in the FA Youth Cup last season.

As he is still only 17, I do not expect McKinstry to be one of the youngsters sent out on loan by Marcelo Bielsa this season, I think he wiill be a regular in the u23 side and it would be interesting to see him play in the EFL Trophy - but it would be intriguing to see him get some first team football somewhere this season.
36' WHAT A GOAL! Miazek pulls off a great double save, McKinstry superbly drives up the pitch and into the Wolves box. His first strike is saved, but he knocks home the rebound! 0-2 pic.twitter.com/1OvAy2aXfT
