Leeds United produced one of their poorest performance of the season, but who cares, they won 1-0 against Barnsley FC.
GET IN! Another step closer!
— Leeds United (@LUFC) July 16, 2020
Leeds were poor throughout and Barnsley were the better side, but a Michael Sollbauer own-goal was enough for Leeds to take the three points.
Time now to look at each player and how they performed. As always you can tell me how wrong I am @mightywhitespod or @ThruItAllLUFC on twitter.
STARTING LINE-UP
Illan Meslier - Solid throughout, although Barnsley had the best of it he didn’t have any tough saves to make. 6.5/10
Gaetano Berardi - On the ball didn’t look great but made blocks when he needed to. 5/10
Luke Ayling - Played in a new role at the centre of a back three. Made a poor error to gift a chance to Callum Styles on the edge of the box. 5/10
Liam Cooper - Did ok. Didn’t notice any major problems. 6.5/10
Stuart Dallas - Played in at least three positions and didn’t stand out in any of them. No big errors either. 5.5/10
Ben White - Playing in the DM role. In the first half he made lots of interceptions and showed some class on the ball. Moved to centre-back. Stood out as the one Leeds player having a “good” game. 7/10
Going to say it and sod the consequences, without Ben White we would be in the play-offs. #lufc https://t.co/0OzjoAfFfL

Jack Harrison - Played alright, some lively moments and the set-pieces he took were ok. A surprise when he was taken off. 6/10
Mateusz Klich - Good through ball to put Bamford in during the build up to the own-goal. Not great. 5/10
Tyler Roberts - Very quiet first half, subbed at half-time. 5/10
Helder Costa - Wasn’t in the game enough before going off injured early in the second half, went off on a stretcher, hopefully nothing too serious. 5/10
Mother of everything that is holy. That was awful.

Phillips crocked

Questionable character on the bench
You’d think we were getting relegated. Just get this season done with please. #lufc
Patrick Bamford - Good ball across the six yard box which lead to the own goal. Barely got the ball, not really his fault. Good pass to put Dallas through late on. 5.5/10
SUBSTITUTES
Pablo Hernandez (for Roberts, HT) - Anonymous barring a yellow card for a foul that ended a counter attack. 5/10
Ezgjan Alioski (for Costa, 49mins) - Good energy and a couple of good tackles. 5.5/10
Pascal Struijk (for Harrison, 60mins) - Came on in defensive midfield, one of a few strange tweaks in the game by Marcelo Bielsa, where I have never seen him play before. Made a couple of good tackles. One good pass to Alioski to create a chance. Looked really unfamiliar with the position but all things considered he did well. 6/10
Not going to say anything about that other that this: the last time Pascal Struijk came on, Leeds ended up dropping points. He wanted to leave the club because he felt that he had let them down. To come on and play the way he did today is really impressive under the circs.

Jamie Shackleton (for Hernandez, 93mins) - Not on long enough to score. Used his pace to win a free-kick late on near Barnsley’s penalty area. N/A
