Leeds Player Ratings: Manchester United 6 - 2 Leeds United. Awful start, didn’t get loads better.

Why did this have to happen? Why did it have to happen on my birthday?

I’ll leave the details to the match recap. Leeds United lost 6-2 at Old Trafford and were 2-0 down inside three minutes. The first 30 minutes was really poor and there was no recovering from it.

Time now to look at each player and how they performed. As always you can tell me how wrong I am @mightywhitespod or @ThruItAllLUFC on twitter.

STARTING LINEUP

Illan Meslier - Should have saved the fifth goal. The rest weren’t his fault. Made a plenty of good saves too. 7/10

Stuart Dallas - Right-back in the first half, not the problem but nothing good either. CM for the second half, immediately lost the ball in a bad area and Martial should have scored. Scored a screamer to make it 6-2. 5.5/10

Luke Ayling - The central midfield was more of an issue but didn’t cover himself in glory for the first half. Sent to the shops for the fifth goal. 4.5/10

Liam Cooper - Great header to pull one back for Leeds. Obviously no-one great defensively. Off injured and with Koch and Llorente already out that could be a huge issue. 5/10

Ezgjan Alioski - Nowhere near in terms of his marking despite there being worse offenders. A couple of good moments going forward. 4/10

Kalvin Phillips - Completely asleep on the fourth goal, was barely in the same post code as Lindelof when he scored. Otherwise, a couple of good challenges but joined the rest of the midfield in not being very good in the first half. Neither protected the back four, nor did a good job on Bruno Fernandes. Subbed at half time. 4/10

Raphinha - Immediate error to gift Man Utd the ball for the first goal. Good corner for Cooper’s goal. Looked Leeds most dangerous player overall going forward. 6/10

Mateusz Klich - Got nowhere near McTominay’s run for both his first and second goals, first one it looked like he went to mark Fred, then realised he was meant to be on McTominay and tried to sprint back. Gave the ball away too much when he did have it. Miles off the pace. 3/10

Rodrigo - May have been at fault for the first one, if Klich was not meant to be on McTominay then he was. Ran away from Fred and left him for the third goal. Was involved much more in an attacking sense in the second half. Marking not good enough to play CM in a game like that. 5/10

Jack Harrison - Had opportunities but didn’t make the most of them. The sitter he missed late on being the best example. 5/10

Patrick Bamford - Two good chances in the first half, missed the target with both. Not a good day but he wasn’t the issue. 5/10

SUBSTITUTES

Pascal Struijk (for Phillips, HT) - Gave away the penalty for the sixth goal. Better than many today. 5/10

Jamie Shackleton (for Klich, HT) - Came on at right-back and did ok. 5/10

Leif Davis (for Cooper, 70mins) - N/A
