McGurk scored two goals in the FA Youth Cup last season from four appearances, one of which coming at Old Trafford against Manchester United following Leeds’ fixture with them in the previous round.

The 17-year old was expected to follow Joe Gelhardt in leaving the financially troubled Wigan Athletic to link-up with Leeds’ youth sides. However, the Latics’ administrators rejected the Leeds advances in the summer due to their concern that they are selling too many talented young players.
McGurk is highly regarded by Wigan, as the versatile attacker is now on the fringe of their squad. The Latics sold 25 players in the summer due to their financial irregularities, and they could be ready to sell more as their situation remains unresolved.
