Leeds United have reportedly joined the race for young Croatian midfielder Lovro Majer, a player hailed as ‘the next Luka Modric’. This is according to Calcio Mercato who claim that Majer is Leeds’ top January target.
The Whites have already looked to do business with Dinamo Zagreb for one of their exciting talents in Josko Gvardiol, and Victor Orta will be hoping for more success should he chase a deal for the 22-year old midfielder.
Majer has already started the season in stunning form as he has three goals and two assists to his name from four matches worth of minutes (six total league appearances). The two-time Croatian champion also grabbed an assist in Zagreb’s Europa League qualifier as Zagreb managed to reach the group stage.

With one senior Croatia cap to his name, Majer is being watched by several giants across Europe, with Borussia Dortmund; Fiorentina; AC Milan; Valencia and Sevilla all reportedly monitoring his progress.
Of those teams it is AC Milan who are apparently showing the most interest in Majer as they reportedly had scouts watch Zagreb’s EL group stage opener against Feyenoord.
Leeds spent much of the summer window chasing the likes of Rodrigo De Paul and Michael Cuisance but didn’t manage to get either deal over the line. Following the window closing in October, the central midfield position has been marked as the top priority in the January market if they could make a deal happen.
