Leeds Player Ratings: Leeds United 0 - 2 Sheffield Wednesday

If you’ve been watching Leeds over the last couple of years, you’ll feel a strong sense of Déjà vu.

Leeds United didn’t play very well today. They never seemed to get out of 2nd gear and despite this still missed a few good chances. Sheffield Wednesday on the other hand defended well and took their chances at the end of the game allowing the Owls to claim a 2-0 win.

Time now to look at each player and how they performed. As always you can tell me how wrong I am @mightywhitespod or @ThruItAllLUFC on twitter.

STARTING LINE-UP

Kiko Casilla - Will probably be one of his highest pass completion percentages because Leeds weren’t forced to go long very often. Awful goalkeeping to get beat for the first goal. There will be calls for Illan Meslier. 4/10

Luke Ayling - Was ok across most areas. Passing was really poor at times but that is the case for a lot of the team. 5/10

Ben White - One of the players least afraid to try something today. Brought the ball out of defence well and was willing to beat a man. Passed the ball better than a few others. 6.5/10

Liam Cooper - Defended fine for most of the game. Won a lot of headers. 6/10

Barry Douglas - Not as impressive as his recent appearances. Gave the ball away a bit more than you would like and allowed Jacob Murphy to beat him far too easily on a couple of occasions early in the second half. 5/10

Kalvin Phillips - Was solid today but not at his absolute best, with England manager Gareth Southgate watching on. Decent in possession and won a fair few tackles. Occasionally overrun in midfield but that had more to do with others than him. Set pieces were a mixed bag, one excellent one where Jack Harrison should have scored. 6/10

Helder Costa - Some flashes of good play but didn’t show nearly enough today. Went for goal from distance on a couple of occasions with teammates better placed. 5/10

Stuart Dallas - Had a good start and won the ball well early. Full of running as always but as usual didn’t look particularly comfortable in the role. Lost the ball poorly just before the first goal. Return to fitness of Pablo Hernandez and Jamie Shackleton should put an end to his time in central midfield. Got injured towards the end of the game but carried on gamely. 5/10

Mateusz Klich - Quiet performance. Fewer good things than Dallas, fewer mistakes than Dallas. Seemed very lethargic - may need a rest after playing so much. 5/10

Jack Harrison - Up against right-back Osaze Urhoghide (who was very impressive) and came up second best by a distance. Always willing to receive the ball and showed some good moments but didn’t hit anywhere near his best levels. Missed a great chance from a Phillips free-kick. 5.5/10

Patrick Bamford - Worked hard and held the ball up well. His link up play was good as well. Made lots of runs in behind that were ignored by his teammates. Had a couple of weak efforts. Main criticism was a really good chance missed on his right foot where he has to hit the target as a minimum. Leeds biggest issues came behind him. 6/10

SUBSTITUTES

Ezgjan Alioski (for Douglas, 56mins) - Nearly caused a catastrophe by going for a header when it was clearly Casilla’s ball and he had shouted. Lost the ball too much and his crossing was poor. Had one good shot blocked. 5/10

Pablo Hernandez (for Klich, 66mins) - Surprised it was for Klich instead of Dallas. Got on the ball but rarely in good areas. Best moment was a good cross with his first touch of the ball. Did give Leeds more control of the game until the last few minutes happened. If fit, will start the next game. 6/10

Jordan Stevens (for Costa, 74mins) - Anonymous. Barely touched the ball. Almost all the play was down the left by this point but would have hoped for more of an impact. Did close down well and make a couple of blocks of Sheff Wed clearances. 5/10
