Leeds United will take on Salford City in the first round of the Carabao Cup in August, as the draw was announced tonight from a Morrison’s supermarket in London.
Salford City was promoted to the Football League for the first time after winning the playoff final against AFC Flyde at Wembley last season. Salford, located in the Greater Manchester area, has had a very dramatic rise up the footballing pyramid after the club was purchased by some new owners.
Those new owners are famous members of Manchester United’s “Class of 92,” with David Beckham, Ryan Giggs, Phil Neville, Gary Neville, Paul Scholes, and Nicky Butt all having a 10% stake in the club along with Singapore-based businessman Peter Lim owning the rest.

And because the match-up will be Leeds versus Manchester United, the banter has already begun.
And yes, it does appear that Gary Neville has blocked a certain Jermaine Beckford goal out of his mind, doesn’t it?
