Leeds face off against Sheffield United in a battle between the second and third placed clubs in the Championship table. Leeds are currently on 73 points while Sheffield United are on 71 points. Leeds would go top of the table, at least until Norwich City plays, with a win while a Sheffield United win would see them go second with Leeds dropping to third. A draw would see both teams only gain a point on leaders Norwich.

There are less than ten games remaining this season and it looks like this season under Marcelo Bielsa represents the best chance that Leeds have had to go up since dropping out of the Premier League 15 years ago. A win over Sheffield United would go a long way towards putting some distance between Leeds and the Blades as Leeds look to gain automatic promotion.

Bielsa has been in the habit recently of naming his team during the press conference, only this time he did not, meaning that either there are some chances afoot that he would rather not discuss or it’s gonna be the same again and he didn’t feel it necessarily to elaborate. There is a potential that Leeds could go to Bielsa’s famous 3-3-1-3 formation since Sheffield United usually line up with two strikers, meaning that Gaetano Berardi could be inserted in the starting lineup or Kalvin Phillips could be called on to play as a central defender.

Sheffield United will feel as if Leeds owes them one, as Pablo Hernandez scored the only goal at Bramall Lane earlier this season in what could only be described as a goalkeeping mistake that allowed Hernandez time to put the ball into the back of the net. It was a tough match for both teams, and a win is not guaranteed for either side.

The home crowd could just be the difference today, as an electric atmosphere at Elland Road has been able to make even the toughest teams wilt under pressure, and if there is any manager capable of getting Leeds across the line, it’s Bielsa. Here’s to another memorable Yorkshire Derby.
