Leeds United claimed a comfortable 2-0 win over Queen Park Rangers at Elland Road. Goals from Tyler Roberts and Jack Harrison were enough to give Leeds the three points and return them to the top of the Championship.
Time now to look at each player and how they performed. As always you can tell me how wrong I am @mightywhitespod or @ThruItAllLUFC on twitter.
STARTING LINE-UP
Kiko Casilla - Not forced into any real saves of note. Distribution was fine and claimed a couple of crosses. If a story in the media is accurate it may be the last we see of him for a while. 6/10
Luke Ayling - Played on the right side of a back three as Marcelo Bielsa lined Leeds up in an unexpected formation. Lost the ball sloppily a bit too much in the opening 20 minutes but improved after that to have a good game. 7/10
Ben White - Usual classy performance. Good on the ball and did well in most of his duels. There were a couple of second half errors but they didn’t prove too problematic. Brought the ball out well from the back on a couple of occasions when QPR went man to man. 7/10
Liam Cooper - A return to the starting line-up for the captain and a decent performance. Handled his defensive work really well. Couple of moments where he gave away the ball in dangerous areas during the second half. 7/10
Helder Costa - Worked hard in both directions down the right and moved infield to good effect as well. Having Ayling and Stuart Dallas available to help down the right side gave him a bit more freedom which he was able to use. One of his better games. 7/10
Kalvin Phillips - Took his set-pieces well, tackled well and was very good in possession. Having a back three behind him gave him a bit more chance to push forward with the ball. 7/10
Jack Harrison - Used in a left-wing-back role and had his best game in a Leeds shirt (or one of). Excellent work rate down the left. Played a ball across the face of goal which just missed Patrick Bamford when he could have shot. Good pass to set up Tyler Roberts for his goal and took his own goal very well to seal the three points. Defensive work was consistently good as well. If there is a criticism of this performance, he gave the ball away a little bit too much. 8.5/10
Stuart Dallas - Mostly played in a central role but did some good covering in wide areas when called upon. Passing, tackling, defending, attacking, did everything fairly well - more of the same in an excellent season so far. 7/10
Mateusz Klich - Played a little deeper to make way for Tyler Roberts. Had a good early chance with a volley on his left-foot and did a solid job in midfield. Received a booking for a cynical foul on Ebereche Eze (who was a standout for QPR). 6.5/10
Tyler Roberts - The Wales international had a very good performance on his return to the starting line. He was able to play some good passes which broke Leeds through the lines of the QPR defence. Missed a good chance on his left-foot but gave Leeds the lead with a composed finish from Harrison’s pass. 8/10
Patrick Bamford - His hold up play was good, although not his best day on that front. Lead the line and pressed QPR relentlessly. However, the other side of his game was lacking once again. He was put clean through in the first half but tried to go around the keeper and lost the ball despite having an excellent chance to shoot. Went close with one header, scored another one but was denied by the offside flag. Close to getting on the end of two or three balls across the area. Needs a goal so badly for his confidence. 6/10
SUBSTITUTES
Pablo Hernandez (for Costa, 76mins) - Came on and played some nice passes, didn’t retain possession as well as normally does. Took a free-kick on the edge of the box but hit it terribly. 6.5/10
Leif Davis (for Harrison, 80mins) - Showed good pace down the left side when introduced. Got Leeds up the pitch well and had a good effort on goal. Really impressive cameo. 7/10
