Leeds United’s visit to Derby on Saturday 11 August will be the late match shown live on Sky Sports from 17.30 BST. Leeds’ visit to West London and Brentford was also shown at the non-traditional time of 17.30 Saturday last season. At least the match won’t be a long journey home for Leeds fans this time around.
Additionally, Leeds United’s midweek travel to Swansea to face the freshly relegated side on Tuesday 21 August at 19.45 will also be televised on Sky Sports. It was always going to be a tough match for Leeds fans to attend, with the team traveling to Wales for a mid-week clash, so at least it will be shown live on Sky TV for fans to enjoy at home. Of course, Leeds will still probably take their full allotment of fans.
If last season is anything to go by, these fixtures will only be the beginning of a long season of Sky TV appearances for Leeds. Leeds made 19 appearances on Sky TV last season, but the payout for that many appearances on TV pales in comparison to the TV money that even the lowest appearing Premier League team received. Leeds was only compensated something in the range of £900,000 for their TV appearances, a total that is far less than each of the Premier League teams receive for only one appearance.
Anyway, this is only the beginning, as Sky will undoubtedly feature Leeds many more times this season.
