Morning Leeds-in for 22 June: Kalvin Phillips looking forward to the new gaffer

One of the more polarizing figures at Leeds last season was the young Leeds-bred midfielder Kalvin Phillips. He scored two goals in the opening day win against Bolton Wanderers and had perhaps his best match of the season that day, meaning that the rest of the season was downhill for him.

Phillips spent the rest of the season being widely inconsistent, much like the club, and there was perhaps no bigger whipping boy on social media than Phillips. So perhaps it will be good for the midfielder to have a fresh start under a new manager, especially one with the reputation as Marcelo Bielsa.

Kalvin Phillips said:

I’ve heard a lot of world class managers speak very highly about him and I’m just excited to get in and work with him. I’ve read lots about him and hopefully we can get Leeds back to where they belong.

Even as I get older I still want to be improving. I had an alright season last year and hopefully I can build on that and be the man to go to if Leeds are ever in any bother during a game.

I enjoy pre-season. It’s one of my favourite parts. Obviously getting back to see the lads and buzzing yourself up to be ready for the season.

It’s quite enjoyable and I’m looking forward to it

Here’s hoping that Bielsa can get Phillips to perform like he did away at Bolton last season.
