Andy Lonergan is supportive of young keeper Bailey Peacock-Farrell’s rise to the first-choice keeper at Leeds.

Lonergan was brought in late in last year’s summer transfer window to replace Rob Green, was bound for the bench at Huddersfield Town. Lonergan was brought in to be the backup keeper after the club had brought in former Werder Bremen keeper Felix Wiedwald to be the starting keeper.

Lonergan started a few games, but was dropped again in favour of Wiedwald. And when Wiedwald proved to be unreliable again, Peacock-Farrell got the start because Lonergan was hurt.

Peacock-Farrell didn’t look back and won the starting job outright. Lonergan said all the right things, and since he was already brought to Leeds to be a backup, the emergence of Peacock-Farrell doesn’t really change his status. He was tipped for a move to Sunderland in the January transfer window, but that didn’t work out.

With Wiedwald expected to be on the move, unless another keeper is brought in, Lonergan and Peacock-Farrell are expected to be the keepers next year, so it’s good to see that, at least for right now, everything is fine.
