The U23s are starting to gel.
While the first team has been struggling on the pitch during the second half of the season, the U23s have suddenly started to catch fire. They’re two points off the playoffs, and they’ve even sent a couple players, Tom Pearce and Bailey Peacock-Farrell, to the first team. Carlos Coberan said:
The performance of the team now is great.
We’re six games unbeaten and the players are showing they’re ready to win games and ready to be competitive. One very positive thing is that we believe a lot in us. We’re in the right way to finish the competition. The first part of the league wasn’t strong enough but the reaction of the team was great. We’re happy too because we’re helping the first team.

So the foundations are being built for future success. As much as the team has struggled after Boxing Day and as much as this season has been disappointing, quality coming through the youth ranks will ultimately pay off. Leeds can’t spend money like the parachute payment clubs can, so the only way to get the players needed for promotion is to develop them. We’ll see in a couple years if all the hype about these players is justified.
