Well, we knew the deadline would be pretty quiet for Leeds, and it stayed pretty much to form, save for a late signing of another youth prospect from Forest Green Rovers. The “big” signing of the day, Tyler Roberts from West Brom, had pretty much been discussed and known before yesterday.
That was the transfer window. Worthwhile deals for Forshaw, De Bock and Roberts, at a cost of £7m. Dominated to a large extent by forward planning, with U23 signings and Ideguchi.

The only question going into the deadline day was the possible acquisition of a central defender, with Matthew Pennington having taken a knock before the Hull City match and Conor Shaughnessy having left the Hull City match with what appeared to be a bad injury on top of Liam Cooper serving three more matches on his suspension because of a second red card. Pontus Jansson is the only fit central defender on roster right now, and he’s on nine yellow cards, which means the club is one yellow away from not having any fit senior defenders available.
Pennington’s injury will hopefully not be serious, as Cardiff City visit Elland Road on Saturday and Leeds will need Jansson to be on his best behaviour and a fit Pennington to hold the line, otherwise Leeds will be in for a long afternoon. Perhaps Paudie O’Connor and Aapo Halme will get some time with the senior team while everyone is out.
