Luke Ayling has been named the August Player of the Month by Leeds United and the sponsor, Swiss watch brand Louis Erard. Louis Erard had been the sponsor of the Player of the Month awards last season, and they return as the Official Timing Partner of Leeds United this season and they will also be sponsoring a “Fan of the Month” award, honoring a long-term fan of the club.

Honestly, this was probably a difficult decision, with all of the players that had fantastic August performances for the club. However, Ayling is an absolute warrior, playing almost every minute of every match for the club in August, and being part of a backline that was tested with injury and fitness issues, but still kept a number of clean sheets and was able to win every match during the month.
Although the this award is for August, and it’s just being named now, a case could be made for Ayling to be the award winner for September as well, with the defender putting in good performances this month as well. His clearance off the line against Birmingham City a few weeks ago is the stuff of legend, and filling in at central defence against Burnley was also brilliantly done.
Luke Ayling appears to be the “vice-captain” for the club, taking the armband when Liam Cooper isn’t available, and with little wonder. Ayling might be the best right-back in the division, and has also moved over to play centre-back when needed on a couple of occasions this season already. He’s been a solid addition to the squad since coming over from Bristol City last August, and the 26 year-old has been a fan favorite almost since he stepped onto the pitch.
So congratulations Luke! Wear that watch with pride, and good for him to give some credit to the rest of the team in his tweet as well. MOT
