The second of the pre-season friendlies will take place Saturday, July 8th, as Leeds United visit West Yorkshire neighbours Guiseley AFC. The National League team finished 20th last season with 51 points, famously escaping relegation by one point and dooming York City to the National League North after a 90th minute goal by Danny Lowe at home to Solihull Moors in the last match of the season. Guiseley AFC has never risen to the Football League in their existence, and they have largely been a semi-professional club since their founding in 1909.
8th July. 1st preseason game. My two favourite teams are playing against each other

Can't wait for the big City of Leeds derby! North Leeds v South Leeds #guiseleyafc #lufc

Given the different levels of football and league memberships that the two sides have occupied for most of their histories, expect a fairly friendly local West Yorkshire “derby” between the two clubs. A lot of Guiseley fans will probably also be Leeds United fans, and it will be a thrill for the fans to see players from the level of the Championship play at their ground. The grounds are less than a half-hour drive apart, with Guiseley lying northwest of the Leeds city center.
Leeds will get another look at the new players that have come to the club, as Madger Gomes and Paudie O’Connor both showed flashes of skill in the first half of the friendly against Harrogate Town. Also look for the latest signing, former Ajax and Newcastle player Vurnon Anita to take the pitch for Leeds United for the first time Saturday as well.
#LUFC 1st half XI v @HarrogateTown: Green, Denton, Cooper, Diagouraga, O'Connor, Gomes, Bridcutt, Klich, Roofe, Doukara, Antonsson.

#LUFC 2nd half XI v @HarrogateTown: Wiedwald, Berardi, P. McKay, Bellusci, Ayling, Dallas, Phillips, Vieira, Sacko, Hernandez, Erwin.

The lineups will likely look the about the same, but look for a defender or two to be dropped to make way for Anita and Pontus Jansson to come into the side. Will one of them be Guiseppe Bellusci? We can only hope. The club used different starting XIs for both halves, and expect that to remain the same for the friendly against Guiseley, although Thomas Christiansen may shuffle the players around somewhat.
So enjoy another preseason friendly as Leeds look to travel “away” for the first time this season. Huddersfield Town played Guiseley AFC last summer and were promoted at the end of the year, so maybe playing against Guiseley is a good luck charm. Either way, be sure to check back to see our post game recap.
