With the signing of Samu Saiz, and a recent friendly against SD Eibar, we have been mentioned in a bunch of Spanish media. Most recently, it has been reported that we have acquired the ‘rights’ to a former Spanish U-21 international, Rodrigo Rios Lozano.

“Rodri” is set to play for Cultural Leonesa this upcoming season, but it seems as though Leeds United are backing the move.

First reported by Spanish media outlet Cadena Ser, they claim: “Leeds United takes the rights of the player (Rodri) and gives it to the Cultural.”

Cadena Ser also said that Rayo Vallecano and CD Tenerife were also interested for the striker, but it seems as though he is already in Cultural, and he will be presented within the next few hours as their new player.

Leeds United are behind this move is because Cultural are 99% owned by Qatari company Aspire Academy, a place where the best Qatari athletes are trained along with getting a secondary education. Leeds board member Ivan Bravo is the director of Aspire Academy, which is the main reason as to why this move is happening.

Last season, Rodri played for Cordoba CF where he made a total of 40 appearances, and netting 11 goals.

The former Sevilla, Barcelona B, Valladolid, and Sheffield Wednesday player will not be playing with Leeds United this season, but if Rodri does well, expect him to be in a Leeds United kit when we are in the Premier League next season.

I hope Rodri smashes it with Cultural this season, as the team will be playing in the Segunda Division, the second tier of Spanish football. I am sure that Cultural will be looking for promotion, but I will looking to see how Rodri does. I personally want to see him notch at least 15 goals in this upcoming campaign, and if he does just that, I believe that Christiansen will bring him into the fold as solid backup for Chris Wood next year.

Things are going on the up for us! What do you make of this recent news? Do you think a player like Rodri could potentially be in a Leeds United kit?
