Leeds United goalkeeper Rob Green is reportedly attracting attention from North London, where Premier League side Arsenal are rumored to be interested in the 38 year-old ex-England international.

Green, the former Norwich City, West Ham United, and Queens Park Rangers keeper could be interested in a chance to go back to the Premier League and London. Green played brilliantly for Leeds last season, but is rumored to be upset that the team has brought in Werder Bremen’s Felix Wiedwald as competition to be the number one at Leeds. Reports had also emerged that Middlesbrough, who are now managed by ex-Leeds manager Garry Monk, were also interested in a move for Green.

Green would be cover for Arsenal’s first choice keeper, former Chelsea star Petr Cech, as the other options look to be headed out the door. Wojciech Szczesny looks to stay in Serie A, with Juventus reportedly interested in the keeper after he has spent the last two years on loan at AS Roma. Juventus offer Szczesny Champions League football, after Arsenal infamously failed to qualify this past season.

David Ospina, who had been the number two keeper at Arsenal, is rumored to be on the move as well, with Turkish side Fenerbahce interested. The Columbia international could be on the move to find first team football, as he’s been relegated to the bench for a majority of his time in London and is apparently upset about the lack of opportunities he’s been given since his transfer to Arsenal from Nice in 2014.

Emiliano Martinez, who has spent most of his time at Arsenal out on loan, has also been linked with a move to La Liga’s Valencia, prompting something of a goalkeeper crisis at Arsenal.

While a move for Green would be shocking, this could be the result of Arsenal looking to save money in the transfer market for a keeper that could come off the bench and start the odd game while still being at the top of his game. While Green had a fantastic season for Leeds last year, he is 38 years old, and while keepers can keep playing at a high level as they age, Leeds is going to have to move on eventually.

This rumor seems shocking for a reason, and just for that it seems likely to be just that, a shocking rumor. Rob Green wasn’t linked with a move to Arsenal during his peak years, so why would Wenger go to the Championship for a backup now? None of this makes any sense. If Green leaves, it probably won’t be for Arsenal.
