The transfers keep on coming.
Leeds United announced today that they have signed Felix Wiedwald from Bundesliga side Werder Bremen. The German keeper had been previously linked with the club, and joins the Whites on a three year deal. Leeds have already signed Poland international Mateusz Klich, and have been linked to various players from all over Europe so far this summer transfer window.

The 27 year old keeper has spent his entire career in Germany up to this point, playing for MSV Duisburg, Eintracht Frankfurt, and Werder Bremen. He signed for Bremen as a youth player in 2009, but left for Duisburg in 2011 after only playing for the reserves, Werder Bremen II.
After appearing 47 times for Duisburg, he joined Eintracht Frankfurt in 2013 and finally sealed a return to Werder Bremen in 2015. He appeared in 25 Bundesliga matches last season for Bremen. The other first team keeper at Werder Bremen, Raphael Wolf, has also moved on to Fortuna Düsseldorf. It appears that Bremen’s signature of Czech Republic international Kiri Pavlenka sealed the fate of both Wiedwald and Wolf, with the former Slavia Prague goalkeeper being brought in to be the starting keeper at the club.
Leeds United already have a first choice keeper in Rob Green, and so either Wieldwald has been brought in to challenge Green for the top spot or he’s been brought in to replace Marco Silvestri, who has been rumored to want a move back to Italy. The club’s official statement said that “The 27 year-old German will battle it out with Rob Green, Marco Silvestri and Bailey Peacock-Farrell to be United’s first choice goalkeeper during the 2017/18 campaign” but there is not a lot to be put into that. Either way, someone is going to have to move on from the club, and perhaps Wiedwald has been brought in to be the keeper of the future for the club, as Green is 38 years old and will be thinking of hanging up the gloves in the next couple years.
Anyways, being a Leeds fan is not boring this summer! Who knows what tomorrow will bring, as it’s been positive signs from the club so far this year.
