The last two defeats all but put to bed the chance of automatic promotion, which weirdly, I feel okay with. I think the idea of automatic promotion gave us false hope, and we lost focus on the true expectations of this Leeds side.
We now find ourselves 5th with a 5 point cushion between us and Fulham in 7th with 18 points still available. This afternoon, we face an on-form Preston team who beat Bristol 5-0, and we the Whites will be hoping to get back to winning ways. Once again, the TIAT team have made their predictions for the match, add yours in the comments below.
Remember: Leeds United vs Preston North End, 3:00pm BST, TV Listings, Full Preview.
Here's how we think this afternoon’s game will go down...
James Mahoney: 3-1 Leeds - As Nestor referenced in his preview, Simon Grayson has not had a good time against Leeds since his departure and I believe this will continue this afternoon. I think we will see a dominating performance by the whites who control the whole game, with Bartley, Vieria and Roofe scoring the goals in the 2nd half and giving the whole Leeds fanbase a much-needed lift as Leeds keep their charge to the Premier League.
Johnny Wakefield: 2-0 Leeds - The Whites come home to Elland Road and face something of a must-win, with pressure mounting. They’re good at home though, and Preston, while hot, won’t be up to the challenge. Wood and... Wood with the goals, and all of our spirits lifted to continue the run towards promotion. MOT
Anthony Linley: 2-1 Leeds - Preston are still knocking on the Playoff door and are only 5 points off 6th place. They showed how they can play on Tuesday night putting five past Bristol City. However, they should be concerned about this game. Leeds are a wounded animal after the 2 straight defeats and will be hoping to bounce back in front of 30000+ at Elland Road. If we can score first to lift the spirits then the game is ours for the taking. Our home form and Chris Wood's goals should be enough. Wood and Doukara to score for the Mighty Whites with a consolation goal going to Preston.
Mike Stehlik: 2-0 Leeds - The Whites have played very well at home, and are going to need another strong performance against a hot Preston side who torched Bristol City for five goals. However, we're the team with the best back line in the Championship and have the leagues top scorer. Wood and Roofe bang in two goals and we're back to our winning ways once again. MOT
Nestor Watach: 1-1 Draw - The intangibles of football - momentum, confidence - are in stark contrast between these two sides, and it’s important that Leeds have them play as little part in Saturday’s meeting as possible. 30,000+ at Elland Road should help with that, but it can be difficult to just switch things back on again after demoralising defeats. If Leeds can control the tempo, Hernandez should be able to produce some moments of quality as he often does, and create opportunities for Wood. Nevertheless, I wouldn’t bet against Preston scoring after their exploits during the week
