The McKay twins are no longer Leeds United Academy players.

Paul & Jack McKay, sons of agent Willie McKay, had been signed from Doncaster Rovers in January 2016, but both failed to make an impact at the club. Paul McKay’s only senior appearance for Leeds came against Sutton United in the FA Cup last year and Jack never made a single senior appearance. The two of them were released from their contracts six months early, and have already gone on trial at Cardiff City.

This isn’t a big loss for Leeds, as the brothers are already 21, and at this point, should have been making a few appearances for the first team if they were ever going to develop into everyday players in the Championship or even League One. If they weren’t the sons of Willie McKay, this would hardly be news.

Anyway, the Leeds Academy is growing, with players coming in from all over the world, and the club has even started to recruit locally as well, signing Ryan Edmondson from York City a few weeks back. And while it may not have worked out for the McKay brothers at Leeds, we wish them well in their future in football.
