Why do people keep asking Thomas Christiansen about the transfer plans of the club in January?

When asked about Felix Wiedwald, TC responded in the way that you would expect a coach looking to boost the confidence of this goalkeeper. He said that the club was set at keeper and said that Wiedwald was “one of the best in the league” which caused a bit of a kerfuffle on Twitter.

Listen, I can’t stress this enough. TC’s not in charge of transfers. Victor Orta is. If TC really believed at his core that Wiedwald was one of the best keepers in the Championship, he wouldn’t have dropped him for Andy Lonergan. Also, ultimately, TC’s job is to build up the confidence of this players and get them to play their best. Some players respond to challenges, some respond to praise, some respond to being dropped, some respond to having patience with them while they find their form.

TC’s job is to work with the players that are given to him by Orta. And while Orta works with TC to pick the players, the transfers are up to Orta and if Orta thinks the club needs a new keeper, he’ll go get one. And again, it serves no purpose other that to set Twitter aflame for TC to trash Wiedwald in the press and say that the club needs a new keeper. Those conversations should be held between Orta and TC and aren’t meant to be public.

I can’t believe I have to write this whole thing again. TC isn’t going to show his hand on who he prefers or what his strategy is going forward.

Anyway, on to the links.
