Pontus Jansson has become the latest player to sign a new long-term contract with Leeds United.
The Swedish international has signed a new 5-year contract which will keep him under contract until the end of the 2021/22 season.
The defender, who has become something of a cult hero among Leeds fans, joined permanently in the summer for a fee of around £3.5m having spent last season on loan at Leeds from Torino.
He has made 47 appearances for the Whites and has established himself as a key player in the side, despite some recent poor form causing him to drop to the bench.
The defender himself described his recent form as “shit” in a recent post on social media, but this news shows that the club still sees him as a vital part of Leeds United’s future.

In an interview with the club’s website, the defender could not hide his happiness about the new deal: “I am really happy, this has been my second home since day one.
“When I first came here everybody was good with me and helped me in a good way.
“Me and my family love it here, everyone has been so nice to us and I hope to stay here and make people happy.
“Leeds have been fantastic since day one and when I play good on the pitch I get the love from the fans and I am really pleased to be staying here, the supporters, club and team-mates are all really good to me and I hope I can give something back now.
“Leeds are a club that belongs in the Premier League and since day one I have said I wanted to play in the Premier League with Leeds, we are now getting closer and closer and we are on our way to something good.
“From day one I have always believed in this and now the fans, club and Andrea the new owner do, a lot of things have changed and we play better football now, so it is a lot more positive in all perspectives.
“There have been a lot of contract extensions and new signings who have come into the team, we have all helped each other in a good way and we have started the season well.”
I think everyone can agree this is another very good move by the club, just wish they could have done it one day earlier so it wasn’t the day after the release of the latest @mightywhitespod
