Leeds United vs. Rotherham 2017 gamethread: Time, TV, lineups, preview and how to watch

The first fixture of 2017 comes at us fast, let’s hope the lads don’t miss it.

Welcome to Leeds United football in 2017.

The holidays are over, the transfer window is open, and Leeds is in play off position, ready to make a push for #Promotion2017.

Are you ready?

First up in January: lowly Rotherham United at Elland Road. Bottom place in the Championship and looking doomed for relegation, the Millers have won only 3 of their 24 matches this season, drawing 4, and losing 17. Seventeen.

Leeds come in off the best start to the season in years, in fifth place in the table at the New Year. Monk’s men have won 13, drawn only 3, and lost 8. One of those three draws came at Villa Park last week, so the club will hope to start another winning streak on Monday afternoon back at Elland Road.

Reading and Huddersfield sit ahead of Leeds in the table with 43 points apiece, and they play Bristol and Wigan respectively. Sheffield and Derby sit behind Leeds, and they play Wolves and Norwich respectively. We could climb as high as 3rd today and drop as far as 7th... not that that matters in January, but still.

We have several staff members in attendance at Elland Road today, so if you want to say hello, reach out on Twitter. Our Ben Mallis (not in attendance, he’s in Perth) wrote a full preview of this one, Anatoliy Ivantchouk (also not in attendance, he’s in Ohio) put together his three potential men of the match this morning, and we’ll have live-tweets with me (in attendance... via the beautiful melodic tones of Whelan and Pope) over at @ThruItAllLIVE.

Really looking forward to this one. Can’t wait to see what 2017 has in store, seeing as 2016 was pretty damn great. Hope we get to write the recap from 3rd place. MOT

Leeds United starting XI

Green, Ayling, Bartley, Jansson, Berardi, Bridcutt, Hernandez, Sacko, Roofe, Doukara, Wood

Subs: Silvestri, Denton, Cooper, Phillips, Vieira, Dallas, Antonsson

Rotherham starting XI

Price, Fisher, Broadfoot, Belaid, Mattock, Forde, Adeyemi, Frecklington, Newell, Brown, Ward

Subs: Bilboe, Wood, Taylor, Vaulks, Halford, Blackstock, Odemwingie

Leeds 1/2

Draw 16/5

Rotherham 11/2

Johnny Wakefield: 4-1 Leeds. With the quality of the opposition, this one has to be a dominating performance to start 2017 off right. Leeds are the better team in every aspect, so I’m hoping to see goals from Roofe, Wood, Doukara, and Hernandez in a reminder of that win at Deepdale in December. MOT.

Anthony Linley: 2-0 Leeds. Wood and Roofe with the goals.

Matt Robinson: 2-0 Leeds. We should dominate from start to finish but this game is like a cup final for Rotherham so I expect them to raise their game too. A Wood double on his full return and a convincingly dominant display.

Ben Mallis: 3-0 Leeds. A professional attitude will be enough for United to dominate and I expect to see it. The leadership of Monk and Jansson will focus their side on an easy kill, and Leeds will vault into third by night’s end.

Jack Dudley: 3-0 Leeds, confidence flowing since the unfortunate draw at Villa Park, and a sell out at Elland Road will bring three goals and three points!

Sean Ryan: 4-0 Leeds. We coming for Rotherham. They don't have the players, the talent or the drive to beat us. We have the bit between our teeth and are playing with confidence. Roofe is playing brilliant as of late. Gets a hat trick today

James Mahoney: 4-0 Leeds. I expect Leeds to win emphatically today. We will dominate throughout the game scoring two in each half. Roofe with a brace, Ayling and Phillips with the other two goals.

A bit confident today, aren’t we? ...Too confident? Let us know what you think in the comments below: post your predictions and we’ll share them on social media too. Enjoy the game, follow along at @ThruItAllLIVE, and Happy New Year. MOT.
