It’s time. Ladies and gents, it’s TIME. We’ve been waiting for it since May, and even more so since our new manager Garry Monk took the reigns, but today... today is Leeds United football. Hallelujah, praise the Don.
We’ve taken a long look at all the things to expect coming into this season here at Through It All Together. We wrote about the six big summer signings, and then covered the seventh that came in just last week. We wrote about Cellino, nicely and not so nicely, because, of course we did. We defined what success should look like this season, and we made our end-of-year predictions. We looked at the home and away kits before they debuted, and this week took a look at the squad numbers. And then for today, we interviewed a QPR fan and wrote a full-fledged preview of the game.
But now? It’s almost time to actually sit back and watch the lads on the pitch. For each game this season, we’ll have a gamethread post with the most up-to-date information (below). But more than that, we have a comment section where our staff will spend the game, commenting on what happens and discussing it with our readers. Join the conversation below if you’re not at Loftus Road or your neighborhood pub today; you’re more than welcome. And you can always follow our live-tweets at @ThruItAllLIVE.
Alright, here we go. The first match of the 2016/17 season starts...... at 12:00pm BT.
QPR v. Leeds United
Football League Championship
Loftus Road, London
Sky Sports 1, BeIN Sports, BBC Radio Leeds, LUTV
Sunday, August 7, 2016
4:00am PT / 7:00am ET / 12:00pm BT
Leeds United's lineup
Green, Berardi, Bamba, Bartley, Taylor, Diagouraga, Vieira, Grimes, Dallas, Roofe, Wood
Subs: Turnbull, Coyle, Cooper, Phillips, Mowatt, Sacko, Antonsson
Queens Park Rangers’ lineup
Smithies, Bidwell, Hall, Onuoha, Chery, Gladwin, Polter, Henry, Luongo, Caulker, Shodipo
Subs: Ingram, Lynch, Cousins, Washington, El Khayati, Perch, Kpekawa
Johnny Wakefield: 2-1 Leeds. I think the back four is too shaky to hold on to a clean sheet today, but I’m confident in the new offensive additions, and I think we leave Loftus with three.
Matt Robinson: 1-1 Draw. We've looked pretty positive in pre season and I think we'll put in a really good performance. But QPR are a decent outfit too and Jimmy Floyd will have them well drilled. I think it'll be one of those cagey first of the season games where neither team want to lose. If it was at Elland Road I would say a victory for sure, but away from home I'm predicting a draw, and I'll be relatively happy with it too.
Ben Mallis: 1-0 Leeds. I’ll be honest and put my cards on the table, I have no idea what to expect on Sunday. It’s the opening game of the season, which means madness will likely ensue. Part of me that thinks the expectations on Monk and his newly revamped squad will prove too large during the season’s first month. But I have four lovely words to counteract that theory: Robert Green revenge game.
Sean Ryan: 6-0 Leeds, because it's 2 in the morning (at time of submission) in the Emerald Isle and I'm celebrating my first day off in a while. Seriously, though I think it'll be 2-1 Leeds. We've a decent record against the R's of late and we tend to score on opening days. The problem is we always concede as well. My boy Roofe for the first goal.
Jack Dudley: 2-1 Leeds. I think it'll be very, very tight, but I can see us scoring first and then "doing a Leeds" and conceding after sitting back for the following hour. Roofe will be keen to live up to his hype and can see him nicking a relatively late goal.
Joshua Gilbert: 2-2 Draw. I think QPR is going to look positive at the start of the game while the Whites have a sluggish start, but we steal a point late in the game. I think Rob Green has the best 2nd half of his career.
And here’s how you’re feeling, before the game....
