Elland Road Reports: Episode 001, an Introduction

In the first in our new series of short mini-podcasts, editor Johnny Wakefield tells you what you can expect with ERR and how he came to be a Leeds United fan.

Ever since we rebooted Through It All Together almost a year ago, our staff writers have wanted to get into the podcasting game. Today, we’re doing just that through the easy-to-use app “Bumpers.fm” and starting a new feature on our blog: the Elland Road Reports.

As I point out in this first episode, we’re an international staff of nine guys, nine fans of Leeds United, and we don’t get paid for what we do. This isn’t our full-time job, but supporting Leeds is our passion, and we’re going to try to bring that to you in every way that we can. Fandom looks differently for each of us, just as it does with the “Time To Go Massimo” and “In Massimo We Trust” groups, but we’re all Leeds fans, and we all bring something to the table. We’ll have differing opinions, different backgrounds, and different accents (ha!) but we’ve got LUFC in common.

Through the Elland Road Reports, you’ll get to know each of us a little better. We’ve got writers from America, Australia, England, and Ireland, and you’ll get to hear their perspectives (in less than ten minutes) on the Leeds United stories of the day. We hope to record quick reaction podcasts, between 2-10 minutes, after matches... to cover breaking news with short-winded rants... and to just branch out from the usual article and tweet based media. We’re also hoping to get into interviews, Facebook Live, and longer podcasts down the road, but for now, this is our first step into a larger world.

So... away we go.

We start, as we should, with Episode 001: an Introduction. This is my first attempt at recording a podcast... so please excuse the “Ummms” and “Uhhhs” and sound quality issues. Working on that. I also tried to stay away from the Presidential sniffles, but my American accent is still there in force.

I quickly intro the idea of the Elland Road Reports (0:12), scare you with an awful AND LOUD soundbite transition (0:51, sorry), discuss my love of Seattle Sounders FC (1:30), talk about wandering into a pub in Wakefield, England (2:17), explain how I came to be a Leeds United fan (2:36), and then intro the rest of our staff, promote some of our writing, and beg you for some feedback/ideas in the closing notes.

Hope you enjoy it, and I promise, you’ll enjoy Episode 002 (and beyond) even more.

Thanks for listening. Let us know what you think in the comments below. MOT.

P.S. And yes, there’s a Wakefield FC. Took these photos that day, and loved College Grove... even though the Wakefield Trinity Wildcats are jussssst a little more popular.
