Next Saturday the 2015-16 football season officially kicks off and Leeds will go into their game against Burnley full of confidence after beating Premier League opposition, Everton, at Elland Road today. A goal from Chris Wood on his home debut and one from player of the year last season, Alex Mowatt, sealed the win for United.

17,000 fans turned out to watch Leeds' final game of the pre-season and they certainly didn't go home disappointed. It was a solid performance from Uwe Rosler's men and we got a good indication of the White's strongest eleven. While Roberto Martinez fielded a relatively young and inexperienced squad.

It was a tight game for most of the match with both sides trading blows early on. But the first real chance of the game fell to the home side after a quick counter attack led to Chris Wood getting his first shot at goal in Elland Road.

Leeds kept on attacking the Toffees and soon after Charlie Taylor hit a low-cross into the box which fell to Alex Mowatt who lashed the ball over the bar from the edge of the area.

Eventually the ball ended up in the back of the Everton net only for the linesman to rule out Wood's goal.

At half-time, Everton made two changes. Former Manchester United player, Tom Cleverely, replaced Arouna Kone while Conor McAleny came on for James McCarthy. United started the second half unchanged.

Leeds took a deserved lead through Alex Mowatt. Sam Byram played a lovely one-two to free the midfielder who slotted the ball past the Everton goalkeeper.

New striker, Chris Wood, doubled Leeds' lead with just 10 minutes left of play. From about 25 yards out the New Zealand international looped the ball over Joel in the Everton net.

After the game Rosler stated the club will announce the captain for the up coming season on Monday.
