On Tuesday night, Phil Hay of the Yorkshire Evening Post revealed that Sheffield Wednesday were in for Lees. The baffling aspect of the move appears to be the fee, with Hay suggesting Lees will move to Hillsborough for free.
The centre-back could well be leaving Elland Road in the next few days just 11 days before the Championship season. Lees, who has represented England at Under-21 level, has failed to capture the hearts of Leeds fans in the past few seasons.
Before clinching a first-team spot with the club, he spent time on loan at Accrington Stanley and Bury but his progress has never materialised. Despite flashes of calmness and composure, Lees is prone to too many mistakes and his nervous play has caused chaos at the heart of the United defence.
Although Neil Warnock's comments towards him two seasons ago were out of order, Lees has given the majority of Whites fans nightmares with some of his defensive decisions and errors.
Massimo Cellino and Nicola Salerno are actively looking for a replacement with Chesterfield's Liam Cooper now at the top of the list. The YEP confirmed on Wednesday that Leeds have had a bid rejected but were thought to have made a fresh offer of £475,000.
The 22-year-old impressed Salerno in the 2-2 draw with Leeds at the weekend but it remains to be seen if the club will be able to land their man.
So with Lees almost out, the overhaul is continuing. The likes of Paddy Kenny, Zac Thompson and David Norris remain but the club have almost started afresh. It is a gamble and may see United spending until the end of the transfer window, but the Whites shouldn't miss Lees too much.
Have your say below in the poll, are Leeds wrong to sell Lees?
