Leeds United will face Sunderland in the Third Round of the FA Cup. Neil Redfearn and his side will travel to the Stadium of Light in January to face the Black Cats.

Last season Leeds suffered disappointment at the same stage of the tournament, as they suffered a 2-0 loss in the Third Round to lower division side Rochdale. Leeds will look to avoid a similar fate come January. A positive result in the fixture has the potential to inspire the squad's campaign, as it would prove they can compete against a Premier League opponent.

There will also be some history in the cards when Leeds and Sunderland face off. The two sides famously met in the 1973 FA Cup Final, but Leeds fell 1-0 on the day.

One last historical piece is that Leeds were FA Cup finalists in 1965, 1970, 1972, and 1973, but they only emerged victorious in their 1972 effort.
