Before i start with the Chesterfield stats a couple of stats that came out of win against Brighton on Saturday:
1. We scored our first league first half goal at Elland Road, since December 22nd, when Luciano Becchio netted against Middlesbrough.
2. First time we have come from behind to win on the opening day since we defeated Scunthorpe at the start of he 2008-09 season.
3. Luke Murphy became the first Leeds player to score on his league debut since Enoch Showunmi did the same in the 2-1 away at Scunthorpe. Others to do that since 1992 include Brian Deane away at Manchester CIty in Season 93-94, Lee Bowyer away at Derby in 1996, Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink at home to Arsenal in 1997 and Nicky Barmby in 2002 at home to Manchester City.
Chesterfield stats:
We make our 10th consecutive appearance in the first round of the League Cup, before we were relegated from the top flight in 2004, we had only made one appearance in the first round of the competition back in the first season of the competition in 1960, when we were drawn at home to Blackpool.
We have never lost at game at this stage of the competition, winning all 11, although we were taken to a replay by Blackpool in 1960, following a 0-0 draw at Elland Road.
From the 2007-08 season to the 2011-12 season, the league cup 1st round tie took place after the first league game of the season. Our record going into it, reads played five, won three, and lost two. The losses coming against Derby in 2010 and Southampton in 2011.
Three of our last 10 first round ties have been broadcast live on Sky Sports. In Season 2008-09, the cameras were at the Deva Stadium to watch Jermaine Beckford destroy Chester City with an awesome hat trick in a 5 -2 win, they returned again as Enoch Showumni poke in the winner away at Darlington in 2009 and finally in 2011 they were at Elland Road to see the Whites triumph 3-2 in the West Yorkshire derby against Bradford City.
Finally from me there has been several debutants in the first round of the competition since 2005, Rui Marques vs Oldham in August 2005, Hayden Foxe at home to Chester the following year, Scott Gardner, Ben Parker, David Prutton away at Macclesfield in 2007, Tom Lees and Charlie Taylor at home to Bradford in 2011 and last year at home to Shrewsbury there was a raft of debutants as it was the first game of the season.
They were Paddy Kenny, Sam Byram, Lee Peltier, Jason Pearce, Paul Gree, Rodolph Austin, David Norris, Luke Varney, El Hadji Diouf and Dominic Poleon.
