Ipswich Town vs Leeds United: Stats Preview

Andrew Dalton once again provides more stats this time ahead of our game against Ipswich Town.

Alex Broadway

So back to it after a week of transfer frenzy inside the corridors at Elland Road and a trip to one of Leeds United bogey grounds Portman Road:

Here's some stats:

Seeing Red:

As well documented Leeds have had 4 players sent off in their last four visits, to deepest darkest Suffolk. They are as followed:

Season 06-07 Kevin Nicholls
Season 10-11 Alex Bruce
Season 11-12 Aidy White
Season 12-13 Tom Lees.

For the record the last Ipswich player to have seen red in this fixture was Marcus Stewart back in February 2001.

Not all White:

Did you know that since returning to the top flight back in 1990, Leeds have never worn an all white combo away at Ipswich, below is the following kit combos:

Season 92-93 - All Yellow
Season 93-94 White Shirts, Blue Shorts
Season 94-95 White Shirts, Blue Shorts
Season 00-01 White Shirts, Blue Shorts
Season 01-02 - All Yellow
Season 04-05 - White and Blue
Season 05-06 - White and Blue
Season 06-07 - White and Blue
Season 10-11 - All yellow
Season 11-12 Black and flourescent kit
Season 12-13 Black and flourescent kit
Season 13-14 ???

TV

Tomorrows game is the main game on the Football League show, but has Ipswich - Leeds at Portman Road ever been televised live?

Indeed it has, back in October 1993, the live television audience was thrilled to a 0-0 draw, in which David Wetherall had a late header disallowed for offside and in Season 2001-02 David O'Leary took his side to Portman Road for Sunday tea time kick off, in Which the Whites were victorious 2-1 thanks to goals from Robbie Keane and an own goal from Mark Venus. For the record, our 4-2 defeat in October 1992, was one of the main games on Match of the Day.

Will McDermott stop the rot??

Amazingly David O'Leary is the last Leeds manager to taste victory at Portman Road back in September 2001. In fact the Irishman has a 100 % record in Suffolk winning both games and both games by the same scoreline and funnily enough the same goalscorers. Robbie Keane and a Mark Venus OG! Other managers who have tried and failed at Portman Road are Kevin Blackwell one defeat, one draw, Denis Wise one defeat, Simon Grayson two defeats and Neil Warnock one defeat. Before all that Sgt Wilko only managed one win in five visits, that was on 5th November 1988, thanks to a John Sheridan pen. It was Wilkos first win away from Elland Road as Leeds boss.
