Leeds have beaten off competition to sign 21-year-old Scott Wootton from Manchester United. The former England youth international has been brought in to add cover to Jason Pearce and Tom Lees at centre back, but can also fill in at right back.

United boss Brian McDermott told the official site: " I'm delighted to have agreed the signing of Scott Wootten on a three-year-deal. He's a player who has played in the Champions League and someone we feel will develop with us in the coming years."

Wootton has also had previous experience in the Championship spending time on loan at Peterborough and Nottingham Forest whilst at Manchester United.

Hopefully McDermott will not be finished here and at least a winger will join the ranks within the next two weeks. It is also imperative that United keep hold of Ross McCormack. According to reports in Teeside, Boro have made a third bid for the Scottish striker but Leeds have rebuffed their previous two bids.

“I want to say thanks to the owners for doing the deal and bringing another young player to help us go forward.”
