The big centre forward has been using his personal Twitter account to tease fans in recent weeks about a possible move to Leeds.
The 25-year-old will join on loan, with a view to a permanent deal, from Belgian side SV Zulte Waregem where he scored 20 goals in 57 appearances.
Leeds manager, Neil Warnock has revealed the club wanted to take a further look at the forward after he impressed on a recent trial.
Speaking to the club's official site, Warnock said:
"He's a player we've had across for a few days and we liked what we saw.
"We had the opportunity to take him on loan and that gives us a chance to have a longer look at him.
"We think he could be an exciting prospect."
Habibou, who began his career in France with Paris St Germain has spoken of his delight after signing with less than two hours to go in the transfer window.
He said:
"I'm very happy to be here. I know about the background of the club and the expectations around the club, and I'm happy to sign and start playing."
