Striker Billy Paynter today departed Elland Road to join League One side Doncaster Rovers on a two-year-deal.
The 28-year-old completed his deal on Monday and now allows Neil Warnock some more freedom in the transfer market with some reports suggesting Paynter was one of the top earners at the club.
Paynter's time at Elland Road has been nothing short of a failure, and what's worse is I think we all wanted him to succeed. An injury in his first pre-season pretty much killed his future before it had even begun. In 28 appearances Billy found the back of the net on just three occasions.
Neil Warnock placed Billy on the transfer list and it's a relief he's gone. More money, more room for another striker and it now means we won't rely on an out-of-form Paynter.
I'm sure Paynter will score for fun back in League One and at least I can say I was there when Billy netted two against Peterborough. A surreal day after so many near misses.
All the best Billy.
