Clayton Rejoins Grayson at Huddersfield

Adam Clayton today completed his move across Yorkshire to join our neighbours Huddersfield Town for an undisclosed fee and has been reunited with former Leeds boss Simon Grayson. The move comes as little surprise after it was reported that Huddersfield were stepping up their chase for the midfielder.

Clayton, signed from Manchester City by Simon Grayson, spent two years as a Leeds player but spent the majority of his first season at the club on loan at Peterborough United and Mk Dons. Clayton finished his Leeds career with 50 appearances to his name though and became an integral part of the first team last year, becoming a bit of a fans favourite in the process. Partnering Jonny Howson in the centre of midfield, Clayton started the season on fire and a performance at West Ham in which he outshone Scott Parker, who was on his way to Tottenham Hotspur and Euro 2012 particularly stands out.

However, Clayton could not keep up his high standard of performances all season and by the end of the campaign, performances were declining and when Neil Warnock's retained list was released at the end of the season, the biggest shock was that Adam Clayton's name was not on it and he was placed on the transfer list. Keeping Clayton was clearly not a high priority for the manager after contract negotiations broke down before they ever really got going.

Paul Green has already been added to the midfield for next season and now hopefully Warnock can go out and use the money from the Clayton deal to get another of his targets.
