Andy Lonergan Joins The Trotters

Andy Lonergan has swapped Elland Road for the Reebok Stadium and he joins Owen Coyle's men on a three year contract for an undisclosed fee.

The 28 year old only joined the Whites last summer from League One side Preston North End but has clearly been deemed surplus to requirements following the signing of Paddy Kenny last week. Lonergan made 38 appearances in total for the club and one of the highlights of his short stay at LS11 was being made captain by former manager Simon Grayson for a short while after Jonny Howson left the club for Norwich City.

Lonergan made a fine start to his Leeds United career and put in some great performances making many United supporters forget about the disappointment of losing Kasper Schmeichel to Leicester City. However an injury disrupted the shot stopper's campaign and performances following his return were largely inconsistent. Nevertheless, Lonergan still managed to provide some memorable moments while he was here in the shape of penalty saves against Bristol City and Millwall as well some top notch performances along the way.

Neil Warnock finally got his man last week when Paddy Kenny signed for the Whites, since then a move for Lonergan was pretty much guaranteed. In my opinion Lonergan never set the world alight but he was a solid performer and I would like to wish him all the best at Bolton, except in their two games against ourselves of course.
